Penny’s Closet
CareShare has always provided coats and shoes, but as the program grew, we decided to name it after the founder, Penny Poe. Each week a team of volunteers fulfills the coat and shoe needs of children all over the district. Those needs are identified by teachers and other caring adults. Ms. Poe, a counselor, said that having warm clothing is essential for a child’s self-esteem. Penny’s Closet aims to make sure that our children don’t lack any due to a solvable problem. In the 2023-24 school year Penny’s Closet served over 350 students.
“We are not the holes in our shoes. We are not the tattered clothing we sometimes wear.”
