Denise Duong
Denise Duong, a proud Putnam City High School graduate, is an internationally acclaimed visual artist based in Oklahoma City. Known for her vibrant and narrative-driven creations, Duong has established a unique presence in the art world.
Raised by Vietnamese parents, a supportive uncle, and a lively group of siblings and cousins, Denise developed a passion for exploration and creativity from a young age. This spirit of adventure led her to art school in Chicago, further igniting her love for creating and discovering.
Her work is profoundly influenced by her love for nature, adventure, and the tactile experience of working with her hands. Drawing inspiration from textures, processes, and the world around her, she incorporates these elements into her art. Beyond being visually captivating, her pieces unfold rich stories with each viewing. This storytelling quality is evident in her murals, which can be found in various locations like Kerala, India; Medellin, Colombia; Durham, NC; and numerous spots across Oklahoma City.
In addition to her murals, Denise is a co-owner of Little D Gallery in the Paseo Arts District, where she exhibits pieces by artists from both local and national backgrounds. She uses her works to amplify and support the community around her, frequently donating pieces or proceeds to fund art initiatives in Oklahoma.
Denise's artwork embraces the past, present, and future, reflecting her dynamic life experiences and unending curiosity about the world. She and her partner, Gabriel Friedman, collaborate at the gallery to create grand sculptures and installations. Their combined efforts have been displayed in renowned locations like Science Museum Oklahoma, Scissortail Park, and 21c Museum Hotel. As artists-in-residence, they recently installed a large puzzle mural at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital with sales of a smaller replica puzzle benefiting arts programs for children.
The Putnam City Foundation takes great pride in inducting Denise Duong into its Wall of Fame!
