Debbie Giannopoulos (Demetra George) attended Central Elementary and Putnam City High School, where she graduated in 1970. Throughout her school years she excelled in the performing arts, especially choir and drama. 

She studied voice Oklahoma City University and it was during these years she participated in a few pageants. She was crowned Miss Oklahoma 1972. 

While performing at the Wichita Music Theatre, Debbie met and married Mike Mustafoglu. They moved to Houston where Debbie worked with famed NYC Opera mezzo Frances Bible. When they relocated to Los Angeles she made the transition into opera under friend, mentor, and present day voice teacher, Nina Hinson, noted teacher and pedagogue.

Debbie became opera’s Demetra George, after agents told her to shorten her name. She won the prestigious San Francisco Western Region Opera Auditions and a spot in the Merola Opera Program. She was also a finalist in the Met Auditions in Los Angeles and a finalist in the Zachary and Fuchs International Competitions which led to her debut with the Los Angeles Pops in their premiere concert where she wowed audiences with her lively opera and Broadway performances.

Her first CD “Demetra George Sings Love Arias” was nominated for Grammy Awards in 2000 and 2001. In addition, she has amassed many students who have gone on to star in Broadway shows.

Debbie has performed with over 170 symphony orchestras and in thousands of concerts. She has sung for four US presidents (Nixon, Ford, Carter, and Clinton), world dignitaries, prime ministers, ambassadors, consul generals, governors, mayors, renowned world clergy, two Patriarchs, generals, and many movie stars, professional athletes, and TV personalities. 

With the help of her husband Mike, Debbie founded a ladies organization called TALL which aids blind, underprivileged women and children in California and Turkey. 

This exciting and multi-talented artist has been seen on ABC, NBC, CBS, and PBS and heard on national radio and seen on international television.
